I just finished up reading Mark Driscoll’s Confessions of a Reformisision Rev.: Hard Lessons From An Emerging Mission Church. I posted this review on my Facebook page and thought I would post it here too.
I truly enjoyed reading this book. I was very interesting to read how God worked through Mark and the elders at Mars Hill to grow and defined them.
I found Mark’s quotes of two other pastor to be very helpful. First, was Larry Osborne’s counsel to Mark to remember that he is a Christian first, a husband second, a father third, and a pastor forth. He said you must enjoy ministry but live for Jesus and your family. The second quote came from Chuck Smith. Smith said that most churches called the trained but their church trained the called. Smith went on to say that it is much wiser for someone to be overseen by leaders in a church who confirm that God has called them into ministry. Then, once their call has been confirmed, they should be trained by doing ministry in their church.
I also found it interesting how they are always cautious to make sure that people are on mission with them before they invest time and energy in them. This is challenging but essential to being a good steward of the time and resources that God has given you.
Read this book. You will be blessed and stretched.
