Lesson 1 – Veritology: What is Truth?

Review and Summary

Our ultimate goal during this worldview tour is not simply to gain knowledge, but to look upon the face of God and to be transformed in the process.

We will focus on four fundamental issues:

  1. God
  2. Truth
  3. Man
  4. The Social Order

The most important question facing our society today is “What is truth?”

R. C. Sproul stated that “truth is God’s perfect perception of reality.”

Truth is a reflection of God’s character, his nature, his attributes.

Why did Jesus come into the world?

Our common answers were to save us, to redeem us, or to set the captives free. These are good answers how would Jesus answer this?

When Jesus was on trial in front of Pilate, Jesus answered this question for Himself when He said “for this reason I was born, and for this reason I came into the world, to testify to the truth (John 18:37).”

The Cosmic Battle is a battle of truth claims. It is the battle that has rage from the very beginning of this world. It is the battle between the truth of God and the truth claims of the devil, the world, and fallen man. In this battle we either truth in the truth claims of God or we fall captive to the deception of the lies all around us.

Why is truth important?

  • God is truth – it is His very nature
  • Jesus is the way, the truth, the life
  • His Word is truth
  • The Spirit guides us into all truth
  • We are saved by the truth
  • We are sanctified by the truth

And finally, we closed out with the haunting question:

Do you REALLY believe that what you believe is REALLY REAL?

Well, tour 1 is done. If you have any comments, thought, are question please post a comment here.
